Derby Daily Express, 9th June 1916:
At the time of the report in the newspaper, Harry Coles was aged 20, and was the youngest of six sons who were serving in the Army. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Coles of 15, Hampden Street, Derby.

1911 Census:
Harry Coles was a 14 year old butcher's errand boy, residing at 12, Newdigate Street, Derby. He was the son of Ernest Coles, a bricklayer's labourer, and Georgina Coles.
